History

On February 7, 1930, the first meeting of “The Volunteer Fire Company of the Town of Haddam” was called to order. The name was later changed simply to “Haddam Volunteer Fire Company.” Then and now, all of our members are volunteers – with jobs, school and family obligations. Yet these men and women, young and old, find the time to train and help their neighbors in need.

Today, the Fire Company averages 500 to 600 calls for emergency service per year – everything from fires and motor vehicle accidents to medical emergencies. It holds the State designation as R1, Medical first responding agency for all medical emergencies in town. With trained and certified Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) living throughout the town, response times are excellent, with care usually initiated within minutes.

The Fire Company works closely with Haddam Volunteer Ambulance Service and Middlesex Hospital Paramedics to provide a complete pre-hospital emergency care system for Haddam residents. For emergencies large and small, no matter the call, members are available day and night, 365 days per year.
