The mission of the Cumberland Fire District is to provide exceptional public safety services in a safe, compassionate, cost effective and professional manner.
The Cumberland Fire Department provides emergency services to the Town of Cumberland, Rhode Island. Cumberland is located in Providence County, 10 minutes north of the Capitol City of Providence and 45 minutes south of the City of Boston, MA. The department operates out of 4 stations located strategically throughout the town. The department provides emergency services to 36,000+ citizens of Cumberland in an area of 28.6 square miles and employs 54 career personnel, assigned over 4 platoons & 4 administrative personnel. All fire companies are staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week with a minimum staffing of 11 career personnel operating 3 Engine Companies and 1 Ladder Company. Currently, the department holds an ISO rating of 3.
The department also operates a Statewide Foam Task Force trailer, Water Rescue and Recovery Team and Technical Rescue Team. A comprehensive fire prevention program provides public education, inspection and code enforcement services.
The Cumberland Fire Department has a vast history. It’s origins come from a collaboration of mill village fire departments. It is not until November of 2014 that the “unified” Cumberland Fire Department begins to to shape.
