The University of Connecticut Fire Department is seeking candidates for multiple UConn Health Emergency Medical Technician positions.   These positions exist at the UConn Health Center in Farmington, CT, only.  

POSITION OVERVIEW:

UConn Health Emergency Medical Technicians will be accountable for transporting discharged patients to long-term care facilities or their home environment and respond to limited emergency medical calls within the John Dempsey Hospital Emergency Department. The incumbents in these positions will be required to work a 4/3 schedule that includes weekends and holidays. These are full-time, permanent non-exempt positions with a minimum annual salary of $53,458.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates an emergency medical vehicle to transport discharged patients to long-term care facilities and home environment;
  • Operates and monitors communications equipment to maintain contact with dispatchers;
  • Assists receiving facility in obtaining and recording patient’s vital statistics and circumstances of the call;
  • Prepares reports for billing and other record keeping purposes;
  • Responds to emergency calls for service involving medical emergencies within the John Dempsey Hospital Emergency Department;
  • Assists Emergency Department staff, paramedics and other emergency medical responders in providing emergency medical and health care;
  • Provides emergency medical care to the ill and injured within the scope of an Emergency Medical Technician;
  • Maintains vehicles and medical and communication equipment, and replenishes first aid equipment and supplies;
  • Sterilizes equipment and ambulance and operates within infection control protocol;
  • Participates in training, public education and equipment maintenance;
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. One year of experience as a licensed Emergency Medical Technician
  2. Valid CPR Certification
  1. A valid motor vehicle license

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. National Registry Emergency Medical Technician
  2. Hazardous Materials Operations certification

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires general good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance, and visual and auditory acuity required to perform all duties of the position. Employment of the successful candidate will be contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check, psychological exam and physical exam, including drug testing.

 

APPOINTMENT TERMS:

This is a full-time permanent position with a current work schedule of four 10 hour days  (9am to 7pm) followed by 3 days off.  The starting annual salary for this position is $53,458 up to $67,350 depending on State of Connecticut employment experience, in addition to a comprehensive benefits package that includes retirement benefits, full medical/dental insurance benefits, and contractual stipends.
